Community Groups and activities

Cura-Care gets involved, and organises lots of charitable events and activities within Doncaster through our Community Interest Company.

The Coffee Club

The Coffee Club Group is a welcoming, informal drop-in space for older people, where individuals can come together to enjoy a hot drink & snacks, build friendships, and share life’s ups and downs in a relaxed setting. Most weeks, Ken acts as a quizmaster and puts together fun quizzes for the group to test their general knowledge! You don’t need to take part though it’s absolutely optional.

The group is open to anyone who may be feeling isolated, struggling with mental health, or simply in need of a supportive environment. The group promotes social connection and emotional wellbeing. Run by volunteers the Coffee Club helps reduce loneliness and fosters a sense of belonging in the local community.

All of our community activities are intended to help people to feel part of something interesting and to connect with other likeminded people. We believe that a sense of belonging within your community is an important factor in feeling healthy, both mentally & physically.

We are open to donations and use every penny to give back to the community.

Event days in Sandall Park

Cura-Care team up with our sister company, The ME Project – Mental Health for children & Adults, at certain times throughout the year to host and take part in family fun days in Sandall Park in Wheatley.

You might find us at Princess & Superhero day, or at DINO Day in our huge Dino suits, or The Glow Walk at Halloween. If you have ever been to the Glow Walk you will know that our volunteer scarers are the best in the local area, so be prepared for a great evening!

We work closely with Friends of Sandall Park Volunteer Group to make sure that all of our events are in line with the welfare of the Park and it’s wildlife.

We sometimes raise funds at these events so that we can organise other children’s parties and events throughout the year, so if you see our stalls, pop over and say ”Hello”!

Community Meets

Starting in September 2025 we will be hosting community meets.

Our Community Meet-Up Groups are safe, welcoming spaces for anyone who is looking to be part of a supportive & connected peer group. Whether you’re living with any mental health struggles, or just want to make friends and chat with others, these groups offer understanding and encouragement through shared experience.

The group brings together people from all walks of life who are looking for peer support in a relaxed, non-judgmental environment. There’s no pressure to talk—just come as you are. Some people come to share, others come to listen. Everyone is respected.

The groups will run every Friday from 10-12am & each session will have a general theme, on a rolling 4 week schedule – here’s a brief guide to the types of support you can access:

Week 1 – The Menopause café – A group for women to connect and chat about wellbeing matters.

Week 2 – Support for parents of children with disabilities – a group to share inspiration and ideas and to seek support when things get tough

Week 3 – Men’s Meet – A relaxed men’s group to connect & chat over tea & Biccies and maybe a game of cards or chess!

Week 4 – General drop-in support & signposting – the group will be hosted by counsellors and professionals who can help with a variety of issues

Sessions are informal and guided by qualified counsellors & therapists who ensure the space is supportive and inclusive. Through open conversation, mutual respect, and shared understanding, members can:

  • Feel less isolated and alone
  • Learn practical coping strategies
  • Build confidence and resilience
  • Connect with others who truly understand
  • Access signposting to other specialist services

The Community Meets are part of Cura-Care CIC’s ongoing commitment to improving mental health and wellbeing within the community.

You are not alone—join us and be part of a supportive community that cares.

Children’s parties

Every Halloween and Christmas for the last 5 years we have hosted children’s parties at Armthorpe Community Centre. The parties are always a blast, with lots of games, activities and prizes. Our wonderful staff & volunteers take a lot of time to prepare for the parties and we have had amazing feedback from families over the years. The venue is easily accessible for children who are in wheelchairs or have mobility issues, although we have found that it can get busy and loud, so we do provide a sensory tent in case your child gets overwhelmed.

Tickets are usually advertised on Eventbrite a few weeks before the events, so follow us to get your tickets fast! Also keep an eye on our Facebook Page where we announce opening of the ticket sales.

If you would like to VOLUNTEER WITH US , this is an ideal opportunity to gain skills and confidence. Contact us to find out more & chat about our opportunities.

Community is much more than belonging to something, it’s about doing something together that makes belonging matter.
